Martin Welch’s career began as an Art Assistant working for Condé Nast in the art department of British Vogue, then under the editorship of Beatrix ‘Bea’ Miller. The creative director was Barney Wan. His first published work appeared on Vogue’s shopping pages entitled ‘Shophound’.
Since then Welch has worked as a freelance art director as well as being an Illustrator. His drawings are a combination of precision and wit.
Commissions include Vogue, Tatler, The World of Interiors, Timothy Everest at Grey Flannel & Jeremy Hackett.
Book projects include, notably ‘Put on Your Pearls Girls!’ by Lulu Guinness (Rizzoli NYC) and the re-launch of ‘One Special Summer’ by Jacqueline and Lee Bouvier (Rizzoli NYC).
