A Beautiful Escape / FIGA 15

At times like these as the days get shorter and winter is but a step away, who would deny themselves an opportunity for a little escapism.

“I’d rather be in Miami” is a work by Toby Mott and Lot 1 in A Beautiful Escape / FIGA 15. Mott gave us the idea for our theme that in turn we introduced to our artists, in order that they gain inspiration and produce new art work for our Christmas auction.

As in previous auctions we are using the sale to introduce our collectors and followers to new talent who have caught our eye and promise to keep us surprised and delighted, charmed and engaged.

In no particular order FIGA 15 showcases for the first time new art works by Sue Tilley, Dahren Davey, Sarah-Jane Axelby, Robson Stannard, Saint Brush and Antoine Kruk.

Antoine Kruk is a Franco-Japanese artist freelancing in Paris whose impressive list of clients include Louis Vuitton, Valentino and Chanel. Witty, minimal and executed with a deft touch and economy of means his drawings promise to be eagerly snapped up. Dahren Davey, a fashion design graduate from the Royal College of Art and later the atelier of Vivienne Westwood has produced for us a small group of brilliant head and shoulder portraits. Robson Stannard has made highly idiosyncratic multi coloured single brush stroke profile pictures. Saint Brush from Bavaria invites us to escape to the country and has crafted in his own inimitable style scenes of a pastoral nature free from the complexity and corruption of city life! Sarah-Jane Axelby has made pictures of Morrocan drawing rooms, bedrooms and sitting rooms. The furniture in each vignette acts as a prop for an exotic plant that takes centre stage. Sue Tilley, aka Big Sue, the Benefits Supervisor who famously modelled naked for Lucien Freud has painted transcriptions of photographs made by Corrine Day and Patrick Demarchelier of another model, Kate Moss.
