FIG Auction 5

No.5

This month FIG is excited to celebrate the international collections with FIG Auction 5 inspired by and featuring, key looks from the spring/summer 2020 ready to wear shows.

No. 5 presents new work by New Yorker Jacky Blue who has honed in on the explosive florals of London’s Richard Quinn while Frida Wannerberger’s highly distinctive delicate lines play to the understated femininity of a look from Nina Ricci. Balenciaga’s extreme gowns are reduced by the calm, considered and controlled approach of Cecilia Carlstedt and Louis Vuitton’s art nouveau inflected swirling prints are depicted by Poppy Waddilove.

The sale presents an overview of some of the most exciting practitioners working today and includes a typically assured drawing by Rosie McGuinness (featuring a look from Maryam Nassir Zadeh), a work by Helen Bullock whose spontaniety finds a match in the eclectic contrasts of Ports 1961 and a brightly coloured chalk pastel drawing in tangerine and lilac by Jessica Bird, featuring one of Marc Jacobs’ much lauded and totally idiosyncratic looks.

For the first time in a FIG project is Brooklyn based artist Christina Zimpel. Originally from Perth, Zimpel has worked as Art Director for Australian and American editions of Vogue, Allure and the Sydney Morning Herald. Last year the CFDA Awards featured her portraits of the 30 nominees and honorees at the Brooklyn Museum. For this project, she has applied her bold sensibility to a wildly clashing but opulent look from Dries Van Noten’s collection, that was produced in collaboration with Christian Lacroix.

No. 5 goes live on Friday November 1st.
